Melvin R. Lalonde

Age 70, of Elmira Heights, NY passed away at the St. Joseph's Hospital Wednesday, May 4, 2011. Melvin was born August 7, 1940 in Tupper Lake, NY. He was the son of the late Albert and Cecile (Michaud) LaLonde. Surviving him is his loving wife of 47 years, Marial (Millard) LaLonde of Elmira Heights; sons; Jerry of Elmira, Scott (Gloria) of Elmira Heights; daughter; Colleen LaLonde of Elmira; 9 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren; sisters; Monica Leonard of Ogdensburg, NY, Adele Hunkins of North Lawrence, NY, favorite sister in law; Theresa LaLonde of Phoenix, AZ, numerous nieces and nephews and his baby "TILLY" the canine companion he loved. Melvin was predeceased by sisters Violet, Pauline, Gloria and brother Albert Jr.Family and friends are invited to call Saturday, May 7, 2011 from 4:00PM to 7:00PM at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Avenue, Elmira, NY. Funeral services celebrating the Melvin's life will be held at the conclusion of the calling hours at 7:00PM.DeaconGeorge Welch will officiate. Private graveside services will follow in the Woodlawn Cemetery at a time convenient with the family. Melvin worked for GE for a short time, most of his life he worked for himself, roofing and siding many homes in the area and for the last 21 years. He was the owner/operator of LaLonde Garage in Elmira Heights. He was a loving husband and devoted father, grandfather that loved to fish, gamble, tinker with his Mercedes and the beauty of the west.
