Mavis Micknich

Age 90, passed away in the comfort of her home on Friday January 24, 2014.Born November 30, 1923 in Butte, Montana to Gladys and Joseph Neff. Mavis was preceded by husband, Michael Micknich, sister, Virginia Seeley and both her parents. Mavis is survived by her children, daughter, Dorolyn Cooper of Rohnert Park, California; son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Linda Micknich of Horseheads, NY; daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Richard Clark of Elmira NY; she is also survived by her loving grandchildren, Gary and Cindy Cooper of Antelope,CA; Desiree Cooper of F airfield,CA; Denise and Larry Moheit ofVacaville, CA; Steve (Marlena) Micknich of Horseheads, NY; Michelle and Rick Gryska of Horseheads, NY; Anthony (Meg) Schimizzi of Melbourne Floridaand Kyle (Krysta) Schimizzi of Rochester, NY; and step-grandson, Brad Clark ofHorseheads NY. Mavis has been blessed with 12 great grandchildren and one great great grandson. She is also survived by sisters-in-law, Anna Havtur of Vestal, NY; Olga Michnich ofBinghamton,NY; Mary Michnich of Leraysville, PA; brother-in-law, Joseph Michnich of Leraysville, PA; and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by very close and caring friends, Jim Brick of Erin, NY; Charlene Baldwin of Elmira, NY; Helen Bohlayer and Lyle. Mavis grew up in Butte, Montana and also Bowbells, North Dakota.She was a champion trick horseback rider in North Dakota. She moved to Corning , NY as a teenager. She worked at the Remington Rand, the Eclipse and retired from Iszard's Dept. Store. Mavis enjoyed going to Polka Outings, any family gathering and going out to dinner with the Wednesday Night Group. Mavis was so proud of her home and proud of the 73 years which she spent in it.Family and friends are invited to gather at Olthof Funeral Home. Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Ave., Elmira, NY, on Monday January 27. 2014 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM with Funeral Services celebrating Mavis there on Tuesday at 10:00 AM. The Pastor Leanne Zeck from New Beginnings Methodist Church will officiate the celebration of Mavis's life. Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery in Horseheads, NY. The family would love to thank Dr. Roberto Mauri. Dr. Vincent La Delia and PA Stephanie Busch for providing not only outstanding Medical care to Mavis but compassionate care to her also.
