Sorino, Lidio R. ?Lee? Retired Elmira City Police Officer Age 77, passed away Tuesday, January 15, 2002 at the Chemung County Nursing Facility.Surviving are; his wife of 38 years, Lula Frutchey. Stepson, Richard Oldham of San Jose, CA. Sisters, Mary Miller of Cairo, NY and Vincee Sorino of Elmira, NY. Sister-in-law, Lettie (Leon) Evans of Elmira, NY. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins and beloved black cat ?Spooker?.He was predeceased by his parents John and Josephine Petruciani Sorino and on November 25, 2001, his brother, Carmen Sorino. Lee was a communicant of St. Mary?s Church (Southside), and a Police Officer with the Elmira City Police Department for 25 years retiring in 1982. He was a Lifetime member of the Elks Lodge No. 62 and the V.F.W. Post No. 1536. He was also a member of the American Legion, Harry B. Bentley Post No. 0443 having 35 years of continuous service. Lee was a veteran of W.W.II having served with the US Navy as a Motor Machinist Mate 3rd Class. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed traveling with his wife, Lula.It was Lee?s wishes that there be no calling hours. A funeral service will be held Thursday, January 17, 2002 at 10:00 AM at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Ave., Elmira. The Rev. Richard Farrell will officiate. A service of committal will follow in St. Peter and Paul?s Cemetery, Elmira with full military honors being accorded by the Chemung County Veterans Honor Squad for Lee.In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be directed to American Diabetes Association, NYS-Memorial Proc.
