Jean Gannon SloanWent home to be with the Lord on Monday, August 10, 2015 at her home with familyand friends at her side. She was born in Oswego, NY, May 15, 1921, and was a graduate of Hannibal High School. Jean received a scholarship at Syracuse University in literature, but due to the economy she chose to continue her education at a secretarial school.Jean was predeceased by her husband James D. Sloan and her brothers and sisters:Marian, Joseph, Silvia, James and William.Jean is survived by her son, Douglas with wife Debra of Tucson, AZ;daughter, Laurel, with husband David Sherman of Elmira,NY; sister, Joyce Ilinkovich of Tucson AZ;along with several nieces and nephews. She was blessed with wonderful friends that she loved dearly:Gloria Sherman, Nancy Swartwood, Harry and Ethel, Hazel, Joyce Jankowski and a host of friends she met during her winter's in Tucson, as well as all of her sons and daughters friends whose lives she played a huge part in. Following Jean's wishes, there will be no calling hours.There will be a celebration of Jean's life on Saturday, October 3, 2015 from 3:00 to 6:00 PM at her home, 905 Mt. Zoar Elmira, NY 14904.Those wishing to, may make a donation in Jean's name to the NY State Sheriff's Association Summer Camp 27 Elk St. Albany, NY 12207. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Ave. Elmira, NY.
