Frances McMillen passed away peacefully at her home on November 16, 2014.She was 92 years of age.Born March 4, 1922 in Corning to the late Joseph and Hazel VanEtten, Frances was a life-long Elmira resident and retired from the Steele Memorial Library after many years of faithful service.A long-time member of the congregation at the Elmira Seventh Day Adventist Church, she will be missed by her church family.Frances was a woman with stamina and strength who persevered through difficult times, including the loss of her hearing.She quickly learned to communicate through other ways.Frances is predeceased by her loving husband Robert E. McMillen, their son Robert E. McMillen II, grandson Bernard Todd, as well as her brothers Maynard, Elwin, and Donald VanEtten.She is survived by her beloved sister and brother-in- law, (Dr. Richard) & Veda Lesher, loving grandchildren Robert E. McMillen III, Shelley R. McMillen, and John B. McMillen, daughter-in-law Linda M. Dininger, sister-in-lawEleanor VanEtten, special nieces Kathy BeGell, Martha Keough, and Eileen Lesher, four great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.Frances will be missed by close friends such as Joan VanGalder, as well as Denise Allen and her family.The family is grateful for all of her caregivers at Bethany Home Health Care at Appleridge; especially to past caregiver Micki Seymour, and her personal aide Cheryl Apgar.Frances’ love for her special young friends Amanda Allen and Danielle Allington, who always made her laugh and smile, continued to the very end and we are so grateful to them both.It was her caregivers and fellow residents that made her last four years of life a happy and contented time for her. The family is forever grateful for the years of unwavering love and kindness shown to our sister, grandmother, aunt, and friend by Denise Allen, her husband Gary, and their daughter Amanda.Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Olthof Funeral Home 1050 Pennsylvania Ave, Elmira, Saturday November 22, 2014 at 12:00 PM for visitation.Services will begin at 1:00 PM with interment at Hope Cemetery, Corning NY.Those wishing may remember Frances through donations to the Elmira Seventh Day Adventist Church Memorial Fund 813 Maple Ave., Elmira NY 14904.
