Age 93, died November 17, 2003 in Wingate at Dutchess Nursing Home in Fishkill, NY. She was born in Mora, Minnesota in 1910, the daughter of the late Siguard and Bertha Olson of Elmira, NY.Edith grew up in Troy, NY and was a graduate of Elmira Southside High School. She was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Leroy C. Argyle, and their daughter, Elaine M. Orndoff, her brothers, Wallace, Carl, and Merrill S. Olson of Elmira, and sister, Evangeline Bush of Buffalo, NY.Leroy was a New York State Licensed Professional Engineer employed by the Corning Glass Company. Edith is survived by two sons, Richard L. Argyle of San Diego, CA, and Dr. Bernell E. Argyle of Hopewell Junction, NY; daughters-in-law, Gerry Argyle and Barbara Bottcher Argyle; niece, Edith Allen; nephews, Rick Allen, Bret Allen, and Carl Olson, Jr.; 6 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Edith was a full-time homemaker who enjoyed family and friends and raising her children. She and Leroy organized a square dance club in their 60?s, and she took up landscape painting in her 70?s. One of her paintings was selected by the assisted living home, Fountains at Millbrook, for a calendar they published for 2001.For more than 60 years, Edith and Leroy were active members of the North Presbyterian Church in Elmira. Edith was a member of the Welch Bell Choir, was the first woman elected as Elder, served as a Deaconess, and taught Sunday School..She also helped to establish the West Elmira Branch of the Steele Memorial Library.After her husband?s death Edith relocated from Elmira to Dutchess County to be near her son Bernell?s family in Hopewell Junction, NY.She lived for several years in the Fountains at Millbrook, Millbrook, NY.Family and friends may call from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm on Friday, November 21, 2003 at the Olthof Funeral Home, 1050 Pennsylvania Ave., Elmira, NY. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 am on Saturday, November 22, 2003 at the North Presbyterian Church, 921 College Ave., Elmira, NY 14901. Rev. Gary Chorpenning and Edith?s granddaughter, Rev. Laurie Preisendanz, will officiate.Interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery.The family requests any memorial donations be made to the North Presbyterian Church Organ Fund.
