Winona R. Winters

ELMIRA – Winona R. Winters, 101, of Elmira, passed away on Friday, August 6, 2021 at Chemung County Nursing Home.Born on February 22, 1920 in Dubois, PA, she was the daughter of the late Cyril and Emma (Reed) Yorke.On January 31, 1937, she married Ralph C. Winters and they would share 39 wonderful years together until his death in 1976. In 1982, she retired from St. Joseph’s Hospital in Elmira after 10 years of service as a Nurse’s Aide. Winona enjoyed sewing, crocheting and she was amazing cook that was always trying new recipes.She always kept her home spotless and warm for family gatherings.More than anything, she cherished the time that she shared with her children and many grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she predeceased by her son, Samuel Winters; a grandson, Daniel Cady; and 10 siblings. She is survived by her daughters, Donna Wilcox of Elmira, Bonnie Smith of Elmira; her son, Michael (Stacy) Winters of Hillsdale, MI; many grandchildren; and her sister, Beverly Gunther of Williamsport, PA.
