William F Nelson

April 11, 1936 — February 22, 2008

Bill passed away peacefully at Arnot Ogden Medical Center in the presence of his sisters, Aggie and Arelyn. His Physical ailments were secondary to his extended suffering since the untimely death of his wife in the prime of their life together. He survived two and a half years without Doris, but his life never had meaning without her. Bill was also predeceased by his mother, Agnes Creighton Nelson in 2005 and his father William Francis Nelson Sr. in 1976. Surviving Bill are his sons, Scott (Irina) Nelson of Yakima, WA, Rhett (Theresa) Nelson of Elmira, NY, grandchildren, Brittany and Melany Nelson of Elmira, NY, very special daughter Rene (Nick) DiBartolomeo of Elmira, NY, sisters, Arelyn (Edward) Rogus of Youngstown, OH, Agnes (Rich) Haverlack of Pittsburgh, PA, brother and best friend, Doug (Carolyn) Nelson of Pine City, NY and sister in-law Blanche Derr of Elmira, NY, along with several nieces, nephews, and extended family.Bill was born and raised in Elmira, NY where he met the former Doris Shieve, married, and began a life of love unmatched by any Hollywood Script. He provided for his family and loved ones throughout his entire life. Bill enjoyed a hobby turned career early in life and spent his off-time with his wife, children, grandchildren and friends as he saw fit. These times have been meticulously documented in his photographs that shall remain a testament to his interests forever. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Family and friends are invited to call at Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Ave. Elmira, on Monday February 25, 2008 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM with a Memorial Service honoring Bills life there at 8:00 PM, the Reverend Betsey Crimmims will officiate.The family wishes to thank the management and staff of Colony Park Apartments in Elmira for services beyond the call of duty for Bill and Doris Nelson throughout the years. Also Dr. Robert Lambert and his very capable staff, Maureen Tuite and her Coumadin Clinic, the nurses and aides of Arnot Ogden Medical Center 2B and Southern Tier Hospice.
