William I. Hill
Age 88, passed away on Tuesday, February 3, 2023.
Bill was born on November 10, 1934, in Elmira, NY, the son of the late William A. and Garnet (Kaminsky) Hill.
Bill graduated from Southside High School and Alfred University and was a dairy farmer for 30 plus years, raising Registered Jerseys and his treasured Holsteins. Together with his wife Suzanne, they raised 5 children on the Bi-Sue farm in Lowman, NY. Bill worked at the Chemung County Health Department as an inspector while farming. The farm was eventually sold in 1978, and Bill went on to work for Sorrento Cheese and DFA for many years. Bill spent his final years in the Horseheads area, frequently visiting his children. During his time in Horseheads, Bill loved visiting his friends with dairy cows, enjoyed watching the cattle show at the Chemung Fair, and reminiscing with the breeders of good cattle. Always a voracious reader, Bill loved a good biography. All who knew Bill knew he loved a good meal and enjoyed a good story or joke.
Bill is survived by his daughter, Pamela Hill (David) Turner of Horseheads, NY; sons, Jan Hill of Elmira, NY, Thomas (Patricia) Hill of Elmira, NY; daughter, Gwendolyn Stansfield (Don Rosekrans) of Elmira, NY; son, Ryan Hill of Great Mills, MD; daughter, Joan Hill of Copake, NY; grandchildren, Caroline Watach, Marshall (Jessica) Turner, Corey (Madison) Hill, Natalina (Jesse) King, Caren Hill (Kevin Clark) Danielle Hill, Eric Hill, Felicia (Jason) Hyde, Corey Prettyman, Celeste (Mikey) Carrion, Aiyana Stansfield; sister, Barbara Hill (Bernard) Grebleski; brother Donald (Ruth) Hill; several great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Bill was predeceased by his son Alva Jack Hill and wife Roxy Hill.
