William Aden Galpin

ELMIRA – William Aden Galpin “Coach”, 81, of Elmira, passed away on Sunday, February 27, 2022.Born on February 28, 1940 in Elmira, NY, he was the son of the late William Etman and Viola B. (Jones) Galpin.He was a 1958 graduate of Elmira Free Academy.On February 13, 1960, he married the love of his life, JoAn M. Park. After 32 years of service as a Correctional Officer with the NYS Department of Corrections, William retired from Elmira Correctional Facility in 1994.For more than 30 years, he coached youth sports, many of those years with Mark Twain Little League.He was a member of the Twin Tiers Sports Hall of Fame for basketball, football and baseball. William was an avid golfer, bowler and dart player.More than anything, he cherished the time that he shared with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his brothers, Lawrence and Michael Galpin; his sisters-in-law, Char (Durfee) Galpin and Debbie (Watts) Galpin; his daughter-in-law, Tracy (McDonald) Galpin; his nephew, David Campbell; and his nieces, Megan Northrup and Kerri Galpin. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, JoAn (Park) Galpin; his sons, Gary Galpin, Robert (Kimmy) Galpin; his daughters, Randi Delaney, Dana (Scott) Whitman, Ronda (Philip) Earl, Lynn (Larry) McBride, Laura (Chris) Tressler; his grandchildren, Aden and Jack Galpin, Benjamin Gregory, Gerald (Tammy) Delaney, Nicholas (Jessica) Delaney, Linzee (Steven) Payne, Joel (Stephanie) Whitman, Logan (Hannah) McBride, Katherine and Shayna Tressler, Star, Lela, Savana, and Luketman Galpin; his 13 great-grandchildren; his brothers and sisters, Thomas Galpin, Neil (Kathy) Galpin, Mary (James) Haygood, Lucy (Dexter) Giroux, Fran Galpin, Peter Galpin, Marty (Nikki) Galpin; as well as many nieces and nephews. Friends may call from 4-7 pm on Thursday, March 3, 2022 at Olthof Funeral Home, 1050 Pennsylvania Ave. in Elmira.Burial at the convenience of the family will take place in St. Peter & Paul’s Cemetery in Elmira.
