Age 88 of Southport, NY Passed away Friday, November 15, 2002 in St. Joseph?s Hospital, Elmira. Bill is the son of the late Arthur and Mae White Carr. He was born May 22, 1914 in Corning, NY. Surviving Bill are his beloved wife of 63 years, Helene V. Carr; daughter and son in law, Diane (Laurence) Kasper of Elmira; daughter in law, Mary C. Carr of Gillett, PA; granddaughters, Lynn Greatsinger and Cathleen (Michael) Pelino, of Horseheads, NY; Barbara (Andrew) Degnan of Lorena, TX; great grandchildren, Nicole Edmister, Jacqueline Pelino, Megan and Amanda Greatsinger; three step grandchildren; 5 step great grandchildren, and several cousins. His parents, his son, Roger V. Carr, and his grandson, Teddy Dickerson Jr, predeceased Bill. Bill was employed by Remington Rand for many years, most of them as a foreman. He was their last local employee; ?He turned off the light and closed the door.? He worked as a manager for Ames Supply Co., which succeeded Remington Rand, until his retirement. Bill was a well-known fisherman on Keuka Lake, spending most of his 83 years summers there at the family cottage. Bill?s past and present associations include Trout Unlimited; he was local coordinator with the Bath Fish Hatchery for stream stocking; life member of the Mechanics Club of Montour Falls; member of the Rod and Gun Club; member of local baseball and bowling teams through Remington Rand; and a Commissioner and charter member of the former Southport Recreation Association. He coached basketball for Southport Little League, volunteered for the Arctic League for many years, and was a member of the Keuka Lake Association. Family and friends are invited to call at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc., 1050 Pennsylvania Avenue, Elmira, NY on Monday, November 18, 2002 from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Funeral services will be held at the conclusion of calling hours at 2:00 PM, with Deacon George Welch officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Elmira, NY. Those wishing may make memorial donations in Bill?s name to their charity of choice. Those wishing may leave a ?Candle of Remembrance? for the family at www.olthof.com.
