Burdick, William R. ?Bill?, Age 75, passed away Friday, October 19th, 2001, at St. Joseph?s Hospital.Bill was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather.Surviving Bill are: his wife; Dorothy Mayer Burdick, sons; William ?Rick? Burdick of Syracuse, NY and Kevin (Eileen) Burdick of Elmira, NY, daughter; Karen (Robert) Edwards of Elmira, NY, grandchildren; Brian and Todd Burdick of Elmira, NY and Ashley and Danielle Edwards of Elmira, NY, cousin; Arlene Burdick Miller of Atlanta, GA, sisters-in-law; Elizabeth (Hap) Fuller of Elmira, NY, Fredrick (Evelyn) Rounsville of Horseheads, NY and Richard (Joyce) Rounsville of Elmira, NY and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Bill was predeceased by his father; John Burdick, his mother; Margaret Mathew Burdick and brothers-in-law Francis Mayer and Robert Mayer.Bill was a United States Navy Veteran of WWII.He worked for 18 years as a printing pressman at FM Howell.Bill then worked another 20 years for Empire Trailways Bus Co.He was a life long member of the Centenary United Methodist Church in Elmira, NY.Bill spent time at the church as a member of their Wake-Up Class.He was also a member of; the Big Flats Masonic Lodge # 378 F & AM, the Harmony Loyal O.E.S., past Grand Associate Sentinel O.E.S., Cashmere Grotto, Elmira Heights American Legion Post #954 and Elmira Heights VFW Rexfield Post #901.Bill was a bus driver for the Mark Twain Cadetes.Much of Bill?s free time was spent doing volunteer work, especially for Meals on Wheels. He was a former Boy Scouts of America scout leader and a past PTA president at Elmira Hardy School.He was a volunteer at both the Booth School and with RSVP.Family and friends are invited to call at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc., 1050 Pennsylvania Ave. Elmira, NY, on Monday, October 22nd, 2001 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm.The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 23, 2001 at 11am, at the Centenary United Methodist Church, 424 S. Main St. Elmira, NY.The Rev. David Hays will officiate.A graveside service will immediately follow with full military honors accorded to Mr Burdick at the Woodlawn National Cemetery.Those wishing may make memorials in Bill?s name to the Centenary United Methodist Church.A candle of remembrance may be lit at www.olthof.com.Officers and members of the Big Flats Masonic Lodge #378 F & AM will gather at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc.Monday, October 22 2001, at 7:30pm, to conduct a Masonic service for our dearly departed brother, William Burdick.
