Virginia June (Brubaker) Gustin

November 14, 1923 — February 17, 2025

Virginia June Brubaker Gustin, formerly of Elmira, NY passed away Monday, February 17, 2025, peacefully of natural causes at the home of her daughter Vicki Murphy in Shaftsbury, VT. June is now reunited with her beloved husband William Lawrence ‘Bill” Gustin who died on May 24, 2003.

She was born on November 14, 1923 at Stevenson Township, Marion County, Illinois to Jesse G. Brubaker and Ruth E. Foster.

June married William Lawrence “Bill” Gustin on December 21, 1946 in Hawaii. They were happily married for 56 wonderful years. During those years they had the opportunity to travel throughout the United States and overseas. June loved to travel, and she especially loved to go to the ocean. Most of all, June loved being with her family, friends, and neighbors at her home on Smith Street.

Her survivors include her daughter Susan (Elliott) Warner of Cary, NC; their children Jennifer, Jason (Trixie), Bryan (Felicia), Todd, Elizabeth (Stephen), and her daughter Vicki (Ronald) Murphy of Shaftsbury, VT; their children Ryan (Kelsey), Christopher, and Aeryc.

Also, surviving are 9 great-grandchildren, her sisters-in-law: Gudrun Gustin and Donna Davis, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Her husband, Bill; her parents, Jesse and Ruth Brubaker; daughter, Carol Ann Gustin; sisters, Ruth Eileen Diss, Deloris Jean Morton; and brother, Joseph Lyle Brubaker preceded her in death.

For many years June and Bill owned and operated Naglee Moving and Storage. She was a former member of Pennsylvania Avenue Methodist Church. Her faith was very important to her.

June was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved everyone, and everyone loved her. June lived her life by following the Golden Rule. She was always positive, even when things were not going well.  She was able to see the funny side of things. Most importantly, June showered love and attention on each member of her beloved family. We will miss her so much and look forward to when we will see her again.

June’s family will hold a private graveside ceremony and dedication of her grave at Woodlawn Cemetery, where she will be buried beside her beloved husband. Olthof Funeral Home, Inc., Elmira, N.Y. is assisting the family.

Those wishing may direct memorial donations to the Arctic League, P.O. Box 113, Elmira, NY 14902.
