Age 73 of Fletcher Street Horseheads went home to be with her Lord, Tuesday, September 10, 2002 at her son?s home on Orchard Street where she was loved and cared for during her illness. She was born November 19, 1928 in Wilmington, NC the daughter of the late Martin and Mamie (Odum) Koen. On January 21, 1945 Virginia married Clair K. Canfield in South Carolina. They have celebrated 57 wonderful years of life and love together. Her survivors include: loving husband, Clair; beloved sons, Terry K. (Pon) Canfield of Horseheads, NY; Dean Canfield of Bath, NY; Brian (Janet) Canfield of Elmira, NY; daughters, Celeste Canfield and Amber Canfield of Elmira, NY; grandchildren, George (Jessica) Canfield of Horseheads, NY; Julie Canfield of Brooklyn, NY; Mathew Canfield of Horseheads, NY; Celeste Canfield, Abraham Canfield and Amber Canfield all of Elmira, NY; great grandsons, Nathaniel Canfield and Aaron Canfield of Horseheads, NY; brothers, William M. (Odessa) Koen of Wellsburg, NY; Johnny (Verna) Koen of Wilmington, NC; Jesse Koen of High Springs, FL; sisters, Mary (Louis) Rogers of High Springs, FL; Shirley (Darrell) Anglehart of Gibbonsville, NC; along with several nieces and nephews. Her brother, Bobby Koen and her precious grandson, Andrew Canfield, predeceased Virginia. Mrs. Canfield retired from Corning Glass Works with a total of 56 years of retirement. For 38 years she was an inspector in the operative department and for the last 18 years has enjoyed continuous retirement. In 1996 she received her 50-year pin from Corning Glass Works for her faithful and dedicated service. She was a member of the Rebecca?s Lodge # 91 in Corning for several years. Virginia was a member of the Elmira Christian Center and was involved in the Sunday School. Her greatest joy came working in the nursery with the newborns. Funeral Services will be held on Friday at 11:00 AM in the Elmira Christian Center 235 East Miller Street Elmira, NY. Her pastor, the Reverend John Bedzyk will officiate. Internment will follow in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers Memorial Donations may be directed to the American Kidney Foundation 6110 Executive Blvd. Suite # 1010 Rockville MD 20852.
