Vernon Edward Twedt

Vernon Edward Twedt Age 95, born March 20, 1922 in Minneapolis, MN, the son of the late Jacob and Hana (Stein) Twedt, passed away peacefully with family at his bedside on Wednesday, July 5, 2017 at Elcor Health Services in Horseheads. His first wife, Shirley Griswold; second wife, Jean Machad; son, Michael Twedt; and sister, Marian Carlson, preceded him in death. He is survived by his loving children: sons, Alan (Debra) Twedt of Elmira, NY, Larry Twedt of Cortland, NY, Thomas (Regina) Twedt of Colorado Springs, CO, Charles (Annette) Twedt of Toledo, OH; daughter, Mary (Tim) Reynolds of Elmira, NY; grandchildren: Melissa and Jason; Naomi and David Paul; Elizabeth "Lizzy", Kevin and Michael; great grandchildren: Taylor and Toby; Kaylin, Brynna, Makenna and Koryn; sisters, June Polo of Minneapolis, MN and Claire Roddy of Pennsylvania; along with several nieces and nephews. Vernon, in his earlier years, was a Forrest Ranger with the state of California. He was a Veteran of the US Navy, proudly serving his country during WW II. While living in Alaska he worked on the Alaskan Railroad. Vernon retired from American LaFrance after 31 years of dedicated service as a painter and pinstriper. He loved lifting weights and was quit the weight lifter. He also enjoyed swimming and would often swim from one side of Seneca Lake to the other. At his request there will be no prior calling hours. Family and friends are invited to attend Graveside Services in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park {Jerusalem Hill} on Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at 11:00am. Pastor Larry Burke will officiate and the Chemung County Veteran's Honor Guard will accord Military Honors to Mr. Twedt. Vernon's tribute wall may be signed at www.olthof.com. Vernon was a self made man who rose above his educational level.
