Vernon Harold Baker, 89, of Millerton, PA passed away peacefully at his home on October 18, 2017 with his dog "Gordon" by his side. His loving wife of 65 years, Evelyn L. (Smith) Baker preceded him in death. He was also predeceased by his parents: Harry and Ivy (Holtzner) Baker; sisters: Evelyn, Marie, Sue, Caroline, Hilda and Jean; brothers: Paul, Billy and Bobby; sister-in-law, Irene Burnham; brother-in-law, Delbert Smith; great-grandchild, Emma. Vernon, the last of 16 siblings, is survived by his loving children: Rick (Patti) Baker of Dallas, TX, Randy (Priscilla) Baker of Austin, TX and Lee (Tracy) Baker of Tacoma, WA; grandchildren, Tyler, Steffan, Madison, Riley, Hannah and Thomas; great-grandchild, Gracie; sister-in-law, Virginia Stephens; Tyler and Steffan’s mother, Tina; A special thank you to Rosie and David Warner, Patty and David Chappell and Margaret and Tim Teed. For 30 years, Harold was an electrician with the IBEW Local # 139, retiring from Mills Electric. Harold's sons appreciate how the Mills family supported their father, enough to put the 3 boys through college; for that they are forever grateful. Harold was a Veteran of the US Army and proudly served his country. During his retirement he enjoyed spending his winters in Florida where he loved playing in the Senior Softball league. He was affectionately known as Buddy Boy Baker with the "Golden Arm". He was a member of the Grotto where he enjoyed playing cards and was also a 32nd Degree Mason. Harold also participated in the Senior Olympics. He was a devoted husband, loving father, father-in-law and grandfather who will be dearly missed. Family and friends are invited to gather at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Ave. Elmira/Southport, NY on Tuesday, October 24, 2017 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. Funeral Services honoring his life will follow the visitation at 7 pm. Pastor Jenifer Wolf will officiate. He will be laid to rest in the Jobs Corners Cemetery with his beloved Evelyn on Wednesday, October 25th at 11 am where Military Honors will be accorded Mr. Baker and Pastor Wolf will offer the committal prayers.
