Vern E. Doan Age 88, of Elmira, NY, passed away on Sunday, November 8, 2020 at home. Vern was a U.S. Army Veteran having served in the Korean War; former member of the Elmira V.F.W. Post 901; former member, bus captain and usher at the Elmira Christian Center; and attended the Penna. Ave. United Methodist Church. He was an avid horseshoe player, having won numerous tournaments, loved fishing, hunting, and boxing. Vern's favorite baseball team was the NY Mets. Vern had a great sense of humor and loved to joke. He always felt like he was going to win, no matter what sport, card game or drawing he was playing. Vern is survived by his wife, June Doan; daughter, Lynda Trowbridge of Elmira; son, Randall Doan of Elmira; grandchildren, Ian (Peggy) Ketchum, Melissa Ketchum, Robert (Jessica) Ketchum, Valerie Ketchum, Rebecca Pendleton, Amanda (Louie) Parmelee, Derek Doan; several great-grandchildren; brothers, Bob Doan, Orlo Doan and Duane Janowski; and sister, Katherine McKerrow. Vern was predeceased by his daughter, Debbie Seymour; grandson, Steven Trowbridge; siblings, George Doan, Mary Doan, and Herb Doan. Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Those wishing may make donations to the Wounded Warrior Project in Vern's name.
