PINE CITY – Valerie A. Fortier, 67, of Southport, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, November 19, 2020.Born on February 14, 1953 in Walton, NY, she was the daughter of Myra (Fitch) Cappiello and the late Thomas Cappiello. Valerie graduated from Owego Free Academy in 1971 and earned a degree in Chemical Technology from Broome Community College.Her desire to share the Gospel and follow God’s will led her to study her true passion and she earned a Masters in Theology.Valerie loved taking care of her family and she always cherished the time that she shared with them.Valerie dedicated her life to helping others and serving the people she ministered to. She knew God. She is survived by her mother, Myra Cappiello of Merritt Island FL; her sons, Dan (Kim) Fortier of Slingerlands, NY, Tom (Betsey) Fortier of Elmira; her grandchild, Jimmy Fortier; her former spouse Don (Amy) Fortier of Elmira; her sisters, Marla (Ed) Engelhard of Hatfield, PA, Darlene (Ned) Marcoux of Merritt Island FL; her cousin, Ada Marie (David) Prill of Rochester; as well as many nieces and nephews. Services will be held privately in the spring in East Branch NY, a place that was very special to Valerie and always felt like home.
