Timothy L. Vonneida

Timothy L. VonNeida, 74, of Elmira, passed away on October 15, 2023 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center.

Born on December 26, 1948, in Elmira, NY, he was the son of Harry VonNeida and Mildred (Rinker) Furman. He was a graduate of Southside High School, class of 1967.

After high school, Tim attended Alfred State College receiving his AAS in 1969 and then his Bachelor's of Science  at Trine University in December 1972.

On August 9, 1975, in Elmira, NY, Tim married Tange Marie Thorn, who survives.

Tim was employed by the New York State Department of Transportation, Tompkins County Public Works and retired as the Commissioner of Public Works of Chemung County in 2006.

He was a member the Rotary Club of Elmira since 1995 and held several offices along with President in 1999. He was a multiple Paul-Harris Fellow and recipient of the Four-Way-Test Award.  Tim also was a member and Past Master of the Old Oak Horseheads Masonic Lodge.  As a Rotarian, Tim volunteered at Diven Elementary School since 2006, helping with Pre-K, Kindergarten, and First grade, working with Sheila O' Bireck and Brenda Mosher.  He was awarded the Jefferson Award for his work with Literacy Volunteers and Diven Elementary School.

Tim loved spending his time playing golf, watching sports and his favorite team the New York Giants.

He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Marie, siblings Jackie VonNeida, Thomas VonNeida, and Luann Rhode, nieces, Jill Rhode, Corey VonNeida, nephews Scott, Brian, Tom VonNeida, and Kevin (Ruth) Rhode, along with several great nieces and nephews.

Tim is preceded in death by his parents Harry and Mildred.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, October 21, 2023 from 11 AM to 2 PM at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc., 1050 Pennsylvania Ave., Elmira, NY, 14904.  There will be a Masonic Funeral Service held at 1:45 pm.
