Brown, Thomas Curtin age 91 passed away on Thursday, May 09, 2002 at home surrounded by his loving and caring family. He was born May 7, 1911 in Sullivan Township, PA the son of the late Fay B. and Carrie (Sweely) Brown. Thomas was so pleased to make it to his 91st birthday on Tuesday. In 1934 he married Jeannette Westlake. They have enjoyed 67 wonderful years of life and love together. He was a 1930 graduate of the Mansfield High School. While attending Mansfield, he was first employed by his grandparents, Curt and Jane Sweely on the family farm in Roseville, PA. Upon his graduation, he worked for E. E. Schmick Ice Cream on Broadway Street Elmira, NY from 1930 - 1940. ?Tom? as he was affectionately known, was the first to bottle homogenized milk in Elmira in 1935. During WW II, in the 40?s he worked for the Eclipse and Maple Farms. From 1946 ? 1976 he was employed by the Chamberlains Dairy in Elmira, NY. Upon his retirement he worked as a security guard for the A & P Plant and for Corning, Inc. ?Tom? was the past president of the Millerton Volunteer Fire Department serving 2 consecutive terms. He was very active in the local Boy Scouts of America and served on the Northern Tioga School Board. He enjoyed chaperoning the dances at the Fire Department for the High Shcoolers. In his spare time, he was interested in and enjoyed reading biographies of past presidents. He was and avid fan of the Williamson and Elkland Basketball teams and was pleased to attend any of their games with his close friend ?Si? Simons. His survivors include his beloved wife, Jeannette; loving children, Russell T. (Shirley) Brown; Joanne C. Weir; Douglas F. (Charlotte) Brown; Barbara J. Fisher; Thomas Curtis (Bernadette) Brown; sisters, Donna Enderle and Katherine Furman; brother, Jack Brown; along with 13 grandchildren, 16 step-grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, cousins and many close friends. Predeceased by his brother Wilbur in 1983. Family and friends are invited to call a the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Ave. Elmira, NY on Saturday, May, 11, 2002 from 1 ? 3 and 6 ? 8 PM and on Sunday from 1 ? 2 PM. Funeral Services will be held at the conclusion of calling hours on Sunday at 2:00 PM. The Reverend Douglas Hodge will officiate. Interment will take place at the convenience of the family in the Watson Cemetery in Roseville, PA. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be directed to the Millerton Volunteer Fire Department or to the Jackson Center Methodist Church. Envelopes will be available at the Funeral Home.
