Thomas L. Brooks

August 25, 1976 — March 2, 2023

With profound sadness we announce the sudden passing of Thomas “Tugboat” L. Brooks, our loving son, brother, and friend, on March 2nd, 2023, in Elmira, NY.

Thomas is survived and missed by his loving mother, Connie Granger of Elmira, NY; father and stepmother, Donald and Ketra Brooks of Beaver Dams, NY.

Cherished and remembered by his brother and sister-in-law, Donnie and Katie Brooks of Horseheads, NY; stepsisters, Angel (Randy) Stilts of Corning, NY, Marissa Woughter of Corning, NY; stepbrothers, Buddy (Leah) Woughter of West Henrietta, NY, Chris Woughter of Cato, NY. His memory lives on with several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and his many lifelong friends.

He is predeceased by his grandparents, Mina and Jim Granger, Ernestine and James Brooks; stepbrother and sister-in-law, Michael and Amy Harndon.

Thomas was born in Camp Pendleton, CA on August 25, 1976.

A talented artist who could wield a paint brush as well as he could a crossbow or a fly rod, Thomas was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt, fish, and kayak. Thomas loved to cook for family and friends and made the most delicious creations in the kitchen and on the grill. He adored all animals, especially his dogs Loki, Suzie, and Bailey, and would become fast friends with any that he would meet along the way. Thomas left an everlasting impression on all who knew him, with his charismatic personality, infectious humor, energetic presence, and his undying hunger for knowledge and learning.

Family and friends are invited to gather at the Olthof Funeral Home, 1050 Pennsylvania Avenue, Elmira, NY on March 10, 2023 from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM. Funeral services will be held at the conclusion of the calling hours at 3:00 PM. Reverend Andrew Pollock will officiate. Following the service, all are invited to join the family at the Horseheads American Legion, 71 Old Ithaca Rd, Horseheads, NY 14845. Please bring your best “Tom” story to share! Light snacks and refreshments will be served.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests spending some quality time in the great outdoors with your loved ones in his memory.
When peace, like a river attendeth my way
When sorrow like sea billows roll;
Whatever my lot, Thou has taught me to say,
It is well, it is well, with my soul.
