Thelma (Genung) White, a native of Elmira, NY and resident of Wellsburg, NY and Lakeland, FL passed away peacefully on March 18, 2024. She was 94 years old.
Born April 21, 1929 to George and Bernice (Robertson) Genung, she married Roy E. White, Sr. in 1950. Thelma worked for Westinghouse as a factory worker in the cleaning room, and went on to work for the Elmira School District as a cafeteria worker. For 28 years Thelma and Roy spent their summers at their place in Lodi near Seneca Lake and she wintered for the past 26 years in Lakeland, FL. She enjoyed her time spent at both of these places and most of all enjoyed her family as they were everything to her.
She was preceded in death by her parent, her brothers and sisters, her beloved husband of 67 years, Roy E. White, Sr. and their cherished dog, Rusty.
She is survived by: her children - Barbara “B.J.” Palmer and husband Shawn Morris of Wellsburg, NY; Sue Knickerbocker and husband Howard of Elmira, NY; Darlene Pritchard and husband Terry of Elmira, NY; Daryl “Slugger” White of Connecticut; and Roy E. White, Jr. and wife Connie of Pine City, NY; her eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
The family would like to thank Marge Woodard, her niece, and Courtney Johnson, her aide from Family Services, for the loving care and support they offered to her.
Friends and Family are invited to calling hours from 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM on Saturday, May 18, 2024 and her memorial service, which will begin at 3:00 PM, to be officiated by Pastor Robert Searle at Olthof Funeral Home, 1050 Pennsylvania Avenue, Elmira, NY 14904.
