Sophie F. Conklin

MILLPORT – Sophie F. Conklin, 93, of Millport, passed away on Tuesday, May 23, 2023. Born on May 26, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Theodore and Maria (Mysnyk) Fecich. Sophie served as town clerk and tax collector for the town of Veteran for 24 years. She was formerly employed with Westinghouse for 17 years. She was a member of the St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church and the Pyrohy Ladies Group. She was also a Charter member of the of the Chemung-Schuler Municipal Clerk’s Association, Charter member of the Auxiliary of Catholic War Veterans Post No. 1178, Elmira Heights, a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post No. 442, Horseheads, the Women of the Moose Chapter No. 1832, Horseheads, and a member of the Millport Community Days Association. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters, Ann Stetz, Helen Gilkey, Julia Eldred, Mary Crowley; her brothers, John Fecich and Alexander Fecich. She is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great nieces, and great-great nephews. It was Sophie’s request that there be no calling hours. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 am on Wednesday, May 31, 2023 at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, McCanns Blvd. in Elmira Heights. Interment will be private in the St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery in Elmira.
