Shirley Ann Evans

ELMIRA HEIGHTS – Shirley Ann Evans, 83, of Elmira Heights, passed away on Friday, December 2, 2022.  Born on September 10, 1939 in Swanton, VT, she was the daughter of the late Willard and Rose (Nolan) Hilliker.  Shirley was a graduate of Southside High School in Elmira after obtaining her G.E.D.

On April 16, 1960, she married the love of her life, Gordon R. Evans, Sr. at the First Baptist Church of Horseheads and they shared 60 wonderful years together.

Shirley was a loving sister, mother, wife, grandmother and great-grandmother who loved her family dearly.  She was devout in her faith and loved her church family.  Shirley always made time to help others and was often looked to by her family for advice.  She enjoyed sewing and watching home improvement shows.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Gordon R. Evans, Sr.; her son-in-law, James M. Tucker; and her 11 siblings.

She is survived by her children, Brenda Tucker of Elmira Heights; Deborah (Michael) Watson of Concord, NC, Gordon (Shawna) Evans, Jr. of Concord, NC; Kathy (Gennadiy) Glyvin of Waukesha, WI; her grandchildren, Matt Hauck, Virginia (Zachary) Wolfe, Michael Evans, Jay (Shauna) Vanderhoff, Aaron Vanderhoff; her great-grandchildren, Deegan Hauck, Bayliegh Vanderhoff, Zenaid Pillay-Vanderhoff; her sister, Pauline LaBrie of Swanton, VT; her sisters-in-laws, June Wilson of Elmira and Sharon Bennett of Elmira; Her brother-in-law Ronald (Jennifer) Evans of Frost Proof, FL; Her adopted daughters, Brenda Dandrea of Horseheads, NY and Teri (Terry) Mayo of Syracuse, NY: as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A graveside service will be held at 1 pm on Friday, December 9, 2022 at Woodlawn National Cemetery, 1825 Davis Street, Elmira, NY 14901.
