Sarah M. Fell

Fell, Sarah B. Marshall (Sally), age 90, passed away on Thursday, December 8, 2017.She was the daughter of the late Dr. J. Brewer Marshall and Winifred OlendorfMarshall of Lincoln, RI, and the granddaughter of the late Dr. and State Representative, Alexander and Grace Marshall, also Henry Augustus and Carrie Ball Olendorf. She was also predeceased by her brother, Alexander Marshall, of St. Louis, MO. She graduated from Hope High School, and in 1953, she graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Brown University (then Pembroke) with a history major.It was at Brown that she met the love of her life, Ernest Millward Fell, Jr. who predeceased her in 1969. She is survived by her loving daughter, Elizabeth (Robert) Fell-DeWalt, of Pine City, NY, and grandchildren Nathaniel and Abigail.She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Elizabeth Marshall, of St. Louis, MO, and nephews Douglas Marshall (Sarah), and their daughter Rebecca, of Amherst, MA, David Marshall(Hyejong), and their son, Alexander, of Fort Lauderdale, FL, and Rev. Daniel Marshall (Anya), and their children James, Alexandra, and Leo, of Milford, Ohio. Mrs. Fell overcame a decade of tuberculosis, becoming an elementary school teacher.She taught in the Warwick and Lincoln, RI school districts for many years.In 1977, she obtained her Master's in Education, specializing in remedial reading. Mrs. Fell displayed lifelong concern for those less fortunate than she, starting a summer camp for underprivileged children, tutoring Vietnamese refugees, and contributing to many charities.Most important to her was her faith in God.She was a member of the Lime Rock Baptist Church in Lincoln, RI, where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday school.In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lime Rock Baptist Church, 1075 Great Rd, Lincoln, RI 02865 or the Blackstone Valley Historical Society, 1873 Old Louisquisset Pike, Lincoln, RI 02865 which, years ago, her father was instrumental in founding. Calling hours will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2017 from 2 pm to 4 pm with a funeral service to follow at 4 pm at Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Avenue, Elmira, NY. A memorial service will be held in Lincoln, RI at a time and date to be announced with burial to follow in Pine Grove Cemetery in Whitinsville, MA.
