Ruth Scalia Age 82 of Robert Street, passed away Monday, September 30, 2002 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center after an extended illness. She was born June 1, 1920 in Nanticoke, PA the daughter of the late Frederick and Emily (Thorne) Brown. Ruth was predeceased by her loving husband, Mario Scalia July 29, 1974. Her survivors include her beloved children, Jean Lewis of Denver, CO; Thomas and Terry Scalia of Elmira, NY; Michael and Victoria Scalia also of Elmira, NY; grandchildren, Robert (Paula) Blitz, William (Christine) Blitz, Brian (Alicia) Blitz, Thomas (Alyssa) Scalia, Amy (John) Cashion, Ryan and Jordan Scalia, and Gregory and Matthew Scalia; along with 11 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and special friend and neighbor, Bill Dickinson. Ruth was a communicant of St. Mary?s Church 224 Franklin Street Elmira. She was a homemaker in the truest sense of the word; a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother. The family will receive friends at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Ave. Elmira, NY on Thursday, October 5, 2002 from 5 to 8 PM. A Memorial Service celebrating Ruth?s life will take place at the conclusion of the visitation. (8:00 PM) Deacon Robert Stowell will officiate. Interment will take place at the convenience of the family in St. Peter & Paul?s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers Memorial Donations may be directed to the American Cancer Society P. O. Box # 7 E.
