Hoffman, Russell R.Age 87 of Pennsylvania Ave. Elmira, NY. Passed away Tuesday September 11, 2001 at the Chemung County Nursing Facility. He was born August 19, 1914 in Albany, NY the son of the late Peter and Catherine (Waggoner) Hoffman. Russell married Ethel Marie Johnson on January 6, 1937 in Albany, NY together they have celebrated 64 wonderful years of love together. He is survived by his beloved wife, Ethel Marie; daughters and sons-in-law; Arlene and Sherman Barnes of Gillett, PA; Dianne and Robert Greene of Greenfield Center, NY; grandchildren, Kim (Tommy) Copp, Joseph (Nora) Barnes, Russell (Heather) Barnes, Jeremy (Tanya) Greene, Marnie (Keith) Jodoin; great grandchildren, Jennifer and Christina Copp, Samantha and Rebecca Barnes, Sierra and Rider Barnes, and Elizabeth Greene; along with several nieces and nephews. His 3 sisters, Elizabeth, Catherine and Margaret, predeceased him. Russell retired from Remington Rand as a machinist after 29 years of dedicated service. He retired from the Elmira City School District as School Crossing Guard. For many years he was responsible for crossing and caring for the children of Broadway Elementary School. Mr. Hoffman was a 50-year charter member of the Southport Volunteer Fire Department and was a member of the Southport Historical Society. Russell was a well know drummer in the Elmira area for many years. His favorite pastime was fishing. Family and friends are invited to call at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. on Thursday, September 13, 2001 from 5 to 8 PM. Funeral Services will be held there at the conclusion of calling hours. (8 PM) The Reverend Carol Price will officiate. Interment will take place at the convenience of the family in the Woodlawn Cemetery.
