Robert T. Hyde

December 13, 1946 — March 5, 2025

Robert T. Hyde, a native of Elmira, NY and resident of Watkins Glen, NY passed away on March 5, 2025. He was 78 years old.

Robert graduated from Southside High School in 1965. He then served in the US Navy from 1966-1970, and went on to serve as a Captain in the US Coast Guard. He later graduated from Mansfield University with a bachelor’s degree in biology. He then graduated from the NYS Police Academy in 1977 and joined the NYS Environmental Conservation Department where he served as a conservation police officer for thirty years. He dedicated his professional career to protecting the streams and wildlife, along with the environment, even into retirement.

He loved football, especially the Buffalo Bills, and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He shared these passions as a mentor to countless kids through the years, including leading several youth hunting safety courses.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Virginia (Taylor) Hyde, and his beloved dogs – Lucy, Rachael, Corona, and Chrissy.

He is survived by: his daughters – Corey Hyde, Jennifer Minchenko (Nick), Leigh Ann Hyde, Katy Hyde, Becky Hyde, and Molly Hyde, along with her mother Beth Anne Hyde; his step-daughter Christina Campbell; his grandchildren – Peyton, Mallory, DaShaun, Devin, and Ava as well as step-grandchildren Katelyn and Anthony; three great-grandchildren; his siblings – Susan Hyde, Pamela Battisti (James) and William Hyde (Jamy); his brothers-in-law John Raub, Todd Corbin and Keith Corbin; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; and his significant other of eleven years, Sandy VanNess.

Friends and family are invited to a visitation on Friday, March 14 from 2:00 PM until 5:00 PM at Olthof Funeral Home. A memorial service will follow at 5:00 PM.
