Robert N. Shaline

Robert Shaline, age 84 of Wellsburg NY, went to be with his Lord suddenly at home after a lengthy illness on Thursday, November 9, 2017, with his wife, Carol of 61 years at his side. He was born in Binghamton NY, the oldest of 9 children. Preceded by his parents Emma Shaline Gentner & William Shaline, siblings, Ester (Jan) Fisher, Paul Shaline & Mary Moore. Survived by siblings John Shaline (Phyllis), William Shaline Jr (Nora) & Evelyn Walters. He was the father of 4 children, Wayne Shaline (Colleen), Sheryl Manwaring (Glenn Strong), Sharon Cash (Anthony) & Linda Hanf (David); grandchildren, Joe Shaline & the late Michael Shaline in heaven, Karah Manwaring & Laura Wahl, Matthew, Christopher & Nick Brand. Great-grandchildren, Emma, Rylie & Jack Brand, Violet & Abel Brand & many neices & nephews. He served in the Navy aboard a heavy cruiser, the USS Columbus CA74 in the Mediterranean & was discharged in 1954. He worked for the state of NY at the Binghamton State Hospital later at the Elmira Correctional Facility as a stationary engineer. He was an aide on a school bus for many years. His passion was his Bible studying, family, farming & trucks. He was an avid Bible reader, was a Christian & loved his Lord, a past member of the former Southside Baptist Church serving on many boards of the church. He presently was attending the Fassett Baptist Church. He was a member of the American Legion Post 154 in Elmira Heights & the USS Columbus Association. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, November 12, 2017 from 2 pm to 4 pm with a funeral service to follow at 4 pm at Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Ave. Elmira, NY. Full military honors will be accorded at the conclusion of the service. Burial will be held on Monday, November 13, 2017 at 1 pm at the Bath National Cemetery, Bath, NY.
