Age: 63 of Plymouth Ave. Elmira NY passed away unexpectedly Sunday October 20, 2002, while visiting at the home of his son Steve in Camillus, NY. He was born January 15, 1939 in Elmira NY the son of Thomas F. and Mildred (Price Scannell) Slawson ?Dick? as he was affectionately known is survived by: his loving wife, Joan Phillips Slawson, with whom he has enjoyed 42 wonderful years of life and love with. He is also survived by: his beloved children, Steve and Cindy Slawson, of Camillus NY; Mark and Jacqui Slawson of Raleigh, NC; Lynda Slawson Brown and Jim Ferris of Pine City, NY; Patty and Jeff Young of Tarpon Springs, FL; David Slawson and Jessica Makovitch of Elmira, NY; Grandchildren, Ryan, Kyle, and Lynsie Brown; Ashley, Allysa, and Jeffrey Young; Jenna Slawson and Abbey Slawson; ? Dick?s? brothers, Tom of Florida, Bob of Massachusetts, Don of Troy Pa.; sister, Mary Ruth of Florida; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jack and Peg Phillips of Hammondsport, NY; Pat and Joann Phillips of Horseheads, NY; Dick and Gail Phillips of Dundee, NY: several half sisters and brothers including, Sue Sherewood, Sandy Motter, Nancy Staal, and Dave Slawson, all of Erie, PA; also his mother, Mildred Scannell of Erie, PA; along with several nieces, nephews, and loving dog, ?Tobey?. His beloved father Thomas F. Slawson predeceased him. ?Dick? was a retired employee from the A & P grocery stores after 42 years of dedicated service as a clerk. For the past 4 years Burns Security at Cutler and Hammer has employed him. Mr. Slawson was a faithful parishioner to many of the local Catholic churches in the Elmira area. He was an avid music lover and especially enjoyed visiting and spending time with his grandchildren. Family and Friends are invited to call at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc., 1050 Pennsylvania Ave. Elmira, NY on Thursday October 24, 2002 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. Funeral Services will be held there on Friday at 11 AM. Interment will follow in the Maple Grove Cemetery, Horseheads, NY. Those wishing may direct Memorial Donations to a charity of one?s choice. A ?Candle of Remembrance? for Dick?s family may be left at www.olthof.com.
