Raymond Ross Thielmann

Raymond Ross Thielmann passed away at home with his loving wife Alice by his side in Elmira, NY on June 22, 2024. He was 78. Ray was born August 15, 1945 in Ortonville, Minnesota and grew up in Wilmot, South Dakota. He joined the United States Navy and became a 2nd class Torpedo man. He met the love of his life when stationed at the Naval Air Station in Key West, Florida. Ray and Alice married on November 22, 1963 in Alice’s hometown of Key West, Florida.

Ray loved fishing, playing the horses and poker. He was a retired landscaper and loved working outside. What he loved above all was his family. He loved family picnics and vacations. He would do anything for his family and always made sure everyone had everything they needed.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother Bill and Ethel Thielmann, and his brother Dennis Thielmann.

He is survived by his wife Alice Thielmann of Elmira, NY; sister Kay Slaathaug and brother-in-law Alan of South Dakota; brother Russel Thielmann and sister-in-law Karen of Florida; brother Vernon Thielmann and sister-in-law Nikki of Missouri; and many nieces and nephews.

Ray is already dearly missed every second and will be forever. There is no one like him and no one could replace him in our lives. We have thousands of pictures to hold onto, memories that will last a lifetime, and stories that will be passed on for generations of an amazing man we were all blessed to be able to love. He was the most wonderful husband, father figure, brother, uncle, in-law, and friend anyone could ask for.

A celebration of life will be held by the family at a future date. Arrangements have been entrusted to Olthof Funeral Home, 1050 Pennsylvania Avenue, Elmira, NY 14904.
