February 26, 1914 — July 15, 2001

Masia, Philomena age 87 Formerly of Pine City, NY. Blessed into peace on Sunday, July 15th, 2001 at the St. Joseph?s Hospital, Elmira, NY by her Lord. Her love will always live on through her loving a devoted son and daughter in law: Peter and Maxine Masia of Elmira. She is also survived by her beloved sister Mary of Florence, Italy and her nephew and his family. Mafalda and Piero Masia, whom Philomena dearly loved as a sister and brother. Her extended family includes Rita Masia Brown, Anthony, Carlo, and Caroline Masia with their spouses and children. In addition, Phil?s brother in law Bob Masia and his loving daughtersPatricia Bruner and Linda Smith, with their children.A sister in law: Theresa Masia Zinn, and devoted family, Bill, Albert, Christopher Zinn, and Patty Stephens. Loyal friends who will miss Phil?spresence in their lives are Marissa Collins and many loving in laws including Bill Bucy, Ginny Lockrem, Carol Tapia and several cousins in Endicott, NY. Familyand friends are invited to call at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Avenue, Elmira, NY Wednesday, July 18th, 2001 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM. Funeral services will be at the conclusion of the calling hours at 8:30PM. The Reverend Richard Farrell will officiate. Private graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family at Woodlawn Cemetery, Elmira. A Memorial Mass will be conducted at a later time to be announced. For many years, Phil was a well known waitress at Masia's Restaurant in Pine City, NY where in the early days, she worked side by side with Lucy and Pat Masia, her in laws whom she loved as parents. An a accomplished cook, Phil shared her gift with all her family, ranging from Italian specialties, to the apple pies she lovingly prepared for all of us, and particularly, her biggest fans, her friend Bill, and her nephew Billy. As a dedicated gardener, Phil colored this world with outstanding seasonal flowers and plants. Phil?s life?s greatest joy and source of pride was her son Peter, and she shared with him a deep love and appreciation of their Italian family heritage. A life long communicate of St. Mary?s Church in Elmira. Her unwavering faith in God and devotion to the Blessed Virgin sustained Philomena through many difficult times in her life. She was very proud and dedicated to be a member of the Adoration Society. In Lieu of flowers, those wishing may make memorial donations in Philomena?s name to the St. Mary?s Church, 224Franklin Street, Elmira, NY 14904.Those wishing may bless the family with a cherished memory by lighting a ?Candle of Memory? at www.olthof.com.Peter and Maxine extend their heartfelt appreciationto the caring staff at the Chemung County Nursing Facility, who tended to Phil for the last seven months.
