Carey, Paul EugeneAge 78 formerly of Christian Hollow Road Pine City, NY and later of Flannery Apartments in Elmira, NY. Passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 20, 2001 at the home of his daughter in Waverly, NY surrounded by his loving and caring family. This good old Irish man fought a courageous battle with cancer. He was born July 1, 1923 in Williamsport, PA the son of the late Patrick Joseph and Mary Ellen (Dooley) Carey. He was married to Helen V. ?Ginny? Lee Carey on April 3, 1948 in St. Mary?s Church. Paul was a Veteran of the US Army, serving his country in Europe during WW II. He for a time was employed at Ingersol-Rand and owned his own grocery store and gas station. He was employed at American LaFrance and retired after 34 years of dedicated and faithful service. He was Recording Secretary for many years for the I.A.M.A.W. Union. Paul was a devoted husband, who adored his wife. He was a loving and caring father and grandfather. Paul had a beautiful Irish singing voice, a delightful sense of humor and was a great role model for his children. Paul built his home, where he and his wife resided for 37 years and raised their family. Paul is survived by his children and grandchildren, Paul E. ?Gene?, wife Sue and daughter Zoe Carey of Eugene, OR; Steven, wife Eva and sons Robin and Patrick Carey of Germany; Patricia and husband Bruce Need of Burdette, NY; Mary Lou, husband Radha and daughter Mila Kundu of Waverly, NY; Jeffrey, wife Teresa and daughter Alexandra Carey of Watkins Glen, NY; sister and brother-in-law, Catherine and Oliver Yost of Montoursville, PA. Paul had a very special affection for his pet and companion, ?Rusty?. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Helen; infant daughter, Janet; brothers, Vincent, William and John. Family and friends are invited to call at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Ave. Elmira, NY on Sunday, September 23, 2001 from 1 to 3 PM. A Prayer Service will be held there at 1:30 PM conducted by The Reverend Vincent Lagan. Memorial Donations in the name of Paul E. Carey may be directed to the American Cancer Society 627 West Church Street Elmira, NY 14905 or to a charity of one?s choice. Interment will take place in the Woodlawn Cemetery where the Chemung County Veterans Honor Squad will accord Mr. Carey full Military Honors at the convenience of the family.
