Norman E. Sampsell

ELMIRA – Norman E. Sampsell, 72, of Elmira, passed away on Wednesday, September 1, 2021.Born in Elmira, NY on July 9, 1949, he was the son of the late Charles and Marion (MacKay) Sampsell. Norman proudly served in the US Navy and earned an Associates Degree from Corning Community College.After college, he went to work for the Star-Gazette in Elmira.After a career that lasted more than 30 years, he retired as the Mail Room Foreman. For many years, Norman coached baseball in the Tom Sawyer Youth League and served as scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 29.He enjoyed spending time with his sister, Susie. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Charles and James Sampsell. He is survived by his sons, Erik (Angie) Sampsell of Mt. Airy, GA; Mark (Beth) Sampsell, Katy, TX; his daughter, Debbie (Mike) Hartman, Altoona, PA; his grandchildren, Allison Sampsell, Sarah Hartman, Erin Sampsell, Emily Sampsell, Katelyn Sampsell, Matthew Hartman; and his sister, Marion “Susie” Wade of Elmira.
