September 21, 1930 — December 15, 2020

On December 15, 2020, Nina R. Swartwood, age 90, walked peacefully from this life into eternity.She was lovingly cared for at Strong Memorial Hospital, after suffering from a stroke. Her daughter and granddaughter were by her side.She was predeceased by her husband Charles.They enjoyed a long and happy 63 years together.She is survived by Son Charlie (Grace) Swartwood of Stratford Ont., Mary (Craig) Fazenbaker of Everette PA, David (Susan) Swartwood of Horseheads, NY, Patti (Ken) Fraser of Ellenton, FL and Nina (Cliff) Horton of Waverly, NY.She also leaves behind, her well-loved 12 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.And her brothers Frank (Teresa deceased) David (Evelyn deceased), Artie (Mickey), Donnie (BettyLou) and several nieces and nephews. Nina was born, on September 21, 1930, to George and Nina Reynolds. She was born in Endicott, NY.She has been a resident of the Elmira area for the last 52 years.But always called Owego, NY home. As a young woman, she worked for the Endicott Johnson shoe factory.After moving to Elmira and raising her family, she went to work at St. Joseph’s hospital.Where she retired at the age of 80. She held multiple positions there, her last, the evening front desk receptionist.She was known as a people person.She made many lifelong friends and acquaintances in her role. She was very compassionate.Her family and her faith were the most important things to her. Her legacy of faith is the most important gift, that she passed on.As a young wife and mother, she gave her heart to serving Jesus.She abandoned her old way of life, and never looked back.This one decision has not only impacted her children, but the generations to come.Many of her children and grandchildren serve actively in ministry.Mom was always ready to share her faith with others and point them to Jesus. She was an active member of Faith Tabernacle Church, in Horseheads NY for over 40 years. Her Son David is a Pastor there.She attended services faithfully. A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, December 19.The celebration will be held at Faith Tabernacle Church, 155 Lenox Ave, Horseheads, NY 14845.A time of viewing from 1-2, with the service immediately following. In lieu of flowers:please consider giving a donation to the general fund at her church, Faith Tabernacle. The Family would like to extend Mom’s dear friend Celeste a special thank you. She was a loving friend, she graciously took mom to her appointments, to lady’s prayer meeting, rides to Eldridge park to enjoy the view, they spent many hours on the phone. We can never thank you enough. Celeste has been an invaluable support to our family and especially our Mom.
