Age 81 of Elmira, NY Passed away peacefully April 11, 2002 at home surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Grace Evangiles Jenkins; Daughters, Georgia (David) Jordan of Pine City, NY and Jane (Danny) Booker of Gladstone, VA; Grandchildren, Alison Whitney (Sean) Daugherty of Portland, OR; Alexander Nelson Jordan of Dallas, TX; Christopher David Jordan of Schenectady, NY; and Aunt, Alice Carey of Fort Lauderdale, FL. His parents, Charles H. and Marie (Ferguson) Jenkins, and brother, Richard C. Jenkins predeceased Nelson. He was a life long member of Trinity Episcopal Church of Elmira, having served as a vestryman.Nelson was also a past member of Old Oak Lodge #253 F & AM, Corning Consistory, and a former 32nd Degree Mason.He also belonged to the Sons of the American Revolution-the Newtown Chapter, the Amateur Radio Relay League (N2EII), and the Corning Country Club.Nelson was a United States Navy veteran of World War II, serving on the USS Sandpiper in the North and South Atlantic from 1940 to 1942 as a Boatswain Mate and on the aircraft carrier, USS Langley from 1943 to 1946 in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre. Family and Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service at Trinity Episcopal Church, 304 North Main St., Elmira, NY 14901 on Saturday April 27, 2002 at 11:00 AM. The Reverend William Lutz will officiate. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Elmira. The family will provide the flowers.Those wishing may make memorials to the Trinity Episcopal Church, Southern Tier Hospice Inc., or the Amateur Radio Association of the Southern Tier (A.R.A.S.T.).
