Michael R. Manchester

Michael R. Manchester, 62,  of Elmira, NY, passed away unexpectedly at home on October 28, 2023.

Born on December 27, 1960, in Elmira, NY, he was the son of Gerald and Elaine (Copestick) Manchester. He was a graduate of Southside High School, class of 1979.

Mike was a lifetime member of the Southport Volunteer Fire Department, a retired Correctional Officer of the Elmira Correctional Facility, and an auto body painter.

He was an avid hunter, fisherman, fishing lure painter, gamer, and comedian, Michael also took great pride in his lawn work.

Michael is survived by his daughter Melissa Manchester, of Elmira, father Gerald (Linda Van Ness) Manchester, of Elmira, fiancé Cindy D. Stephens, of Elmira, grandchildren Isaiah J. Harris, Jr. and Dmari R. Wright, sister Suzie Manchester Grebleski, of Raleigh, NC, niece Samantha (PJ) Martini, nephew Grady J. Grebleski, uncles Bob (Nora) Manchester and Brian (Suzie Cady) Copestick,  several cousins, Cindy's children, Ryan (Mindy) Stephens and Gabriel (Michael) Hess, her grandchildren: Carter, Logan, Maddie, and Claire, and his two special fur babies Daisey and Booboo.

He was preceded in death by his mother, grandparents Gerald, Jr. and Jessie (Treat) Manchester, John and Joyce (Avery) Copestick, aunt Bonnie (Ed) Patten, and cousin William "Billy" Copestick.

Memorial contributions, if desired, can be made to the Southport Volunteer Fire Department, 1001 Carl St., Elmira, NY, 14904.

The family would like to invite Michael's family and friends to his Fireman Memorial Service, on Thursday, November 2, 2023,  beginning at 4 PM at the Southport Volunteer Fire Department, 1001 Carl St, Elmira, NY, 14904.
