Mary Beatrice Mccarthy

Mary B. (Lane) McCarthy, Age 81, passed away on Sunday, February 9, 2025 at home. Mary was born February 5, 1944 in Elmira, daughter of the late John and Madeline (Halliday) Lane. She was in the class of 1962 at Southside High School and prior to retirement worked as a library aide with the Elmira City School District at Washington School.

Mary enjoyed going to lunch and shopping with friends, especially good friend Lois Hart. But her biggest joy came from cooking and preparing holiday meals for her family, and baking with her grandkids.

Mary is survived by her daughter Trish Clark with her partner Lucy Tongue, who was like another daughter to her, both of Horseheads, NY, a grandson; Christopher Clark (Kelly Able with daughters Delaney and Harper Able)  her granddaughter; Katelin (Stephen) Swierczek, a brother and sister-in-law; Jack (Gerry) Lane of Elmira, NY, special niece and nephew, Donna Marble, Scott (Annette) Lane, several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Mary was predeceased by her parents, sisters; Helen Edsall, Eunice Dunn, and Patricia Duarte, brother and sister-in-law Don and Carol Lane, special niece, Dawn Lane and close friends, Mary and Bob Cassada.

Family and friends are invited to call from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM Saturday, February 15, 2025 at the Olthof Funeral Home, 1050 Pennsylvania Avenue, Elmira, NY 14904. Her service will be held at the conclusion of calling hours at 3:00 PM at the funeral home. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in Maple Grove Cemetery, Horseheads, NY. Memorials in Mary’s memory may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
