Marie E. Ames

Marie E. Ames age 92, of Elmira, NY, formerly of Country Club Drive, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 10, 2018. She was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Claude M. Ames; parents, Clarence and Mary Kelly; granddaughter, Kelly Marie Decker and five siblings. Marie is survived by her loving children, Sharon A. Oakes and Claudia (Tim) Mayglothling; grandchildren, David Ames Decker, Holly Christine (John A.) Wright, Aimee Decker (loving family member), Christopher Jones, and Jennifer; 12 great-grandchildren. Marie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was past president and longtime member of the Lioness’s Club and Catholic War Veterans Auxiliary.She was a member of the Horseheads Elks for many years. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Lourdes parish. Marie was also a member of the Arnot Ogden Auxiliary. She loved to volunteer at the Community Kitchen, the American Red Cross, and the American Cancer Society. She cherished her time spent with family at the cottage on Keuka Lake. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Glove House, 220 Franklin St, Elmira, NY 14904. A funeral service honoring Marie’s life will be held on Friday, December 14, 2018 at 10 a.m. at Olthof Funeral Home, 1050 Pennsylvania Avenue, Elmira, NY. A committal service will immediately follow in the St. Peter & Paul’s Cemetery.
