Marda Jean (Curren) McElhaney, of Elmira, NY went to be with her Lord on March 27, 2024. She was born on November 28, 1938, to David M. and Ella Marie (Leonard) Curren.
Marda was predeceased by the love of her life, her beloved husband of 53 years, Philip A. McElhaney, her parents, her brother, David L. Curren, sister and brother-in-law Dolores and Edmund Bogart, and sister-in-law, Romayne McElhaney.
She is survived by her daughter, Kathi (Gregory) Cronkrite, granddaughter, Andrea (Matthew) Brown, great-granddaughter, Ella Ann Brown, sister, Gloria (Dennis) Sargent, brother, Martin (Barbara) Harding, and several nieces and nephews.
Marda worked as Office Manager and Legal Assistant at Davidson and O'Mara Law Firm and retired after 38 years with the firm. Prior to that she was with Sayles and Evans Law Firm for seven years. She was a member of Oakwood United Methodist Church for 30 years, served on many committees and was a member of the choir. At the time of her death, she was a member of Westside United Methodist Church and previously served as Administrative Council Secretary.
Marda loved her family, career, music, traveling, doing word puzzles, playing cards and being with her many friends.
A memorial service celebrating Marda's life will be held Wednesday, April 3, 2024 at 12:00 PM, Rev. Bob Briggs officiating. Family and friends are invited to call prior from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Olthof Funeral Home, 1050 Pennsylvania Avenue, Elmira, NY 14904.
Flowers will be provided by the family. Remembrances may be made in Marda’s name to the Food Bank of the Southern Tier, 388 Upper Oakwood Avenue, Elmira, NY 14903 or to the Arctic League, 249 West Clinton Street, Elmira, NY 14901.
