Lynda Joyce Cummings

Age 52, of Concord, California, formerly of Elmira and Spencer, NY, passed on peacefullyApril 3, 2002 to be with her Lord and to watch over her precious grandson Kody Lee of Binghamton, NY.Lynda struggled with cancer for many years but always maintained a passion for life, her family and especially her grandson Kody Michael Lee.Lynda was born on February 7, 1950 in Elmira.She graduated from Southside High School in the class of 1968.She received a certificate from Pauldines Beauty School and worked for many years as a beautician in the Elmira area.She was the assistant manager of the First Lady Hair Salon at the Arnot Mall.Later she stayed at home to care for her children and eventually relocated to California where she was a department manager for Lucky Foods in the Concord area.She was a communicant of the Fair Oaks Baptist Church in Concord, CA.Lynda was also an active member of the Freedom Coalition, the Republican Party of Contra Costa Republican Assembly and Traditional Values Coalition.Lynda enjoyed the outdoors and particularly liked to hike at Yosemite National Park.She loved to hunt, scuba dive, cross-stitch, sew, and do flower arrangements.She is survived by her husband; James Cummings of Concord, CA who lovingly cared for Lynda for many years, sons; Michael D. Lee of San Leandro, CA, Jeremy S. (Bobbie Jo Voorhis) Lee of Binghamton, NY, parents; Joyce A. Weiskopf of Elmira Heights and Donald R. (Shirley) Weiskopf of Elmira, brother; David R. (Joyce C.) Weiskopf of Horseheads, Ronald W. (Michaelene) Weiskopf of Roseville, PA, Bryon R. (Cathryn) Weiskopf of Pine City, sister; Kimberly E. (Jan) Stanton of Elmira, step-son; Damian Cummings of Marietta, GA, step-daughter; Aurelia (Chris) Johnson of Acworth, GA, step-sisters; Sharon Botone and Shirlene Mase, nieces and nephews; Lisa (Martin) Hubbard, Tim, Jason, Kate, Robert, Bryanna Weiskopf, Cameron, Justin, Alexis Stanton, grand-nephew; Ryan Weiskopf and grand-niece; Marisa Hubbard.Family and friends are invited to call at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Ave. Elmira,NY 14904 on Wednesday, April 10, 2002 from 6-8pm and on Thursday, April 11, 2002 from 12-2pm.Funeral services will follow the visitation on Thursday at 2pm.Interment will immediately follow in Fitzsimmons Cemetery, Elmira, NY.Lynda had many close friends and family members in the area that she returned to visit regularly.She was a very thoughtful and loving person who was very generous to her loved ones.She will be deeply missed by all.Memorial donations may be made in Lynda?s name to Hospice of Contra Costa 2051 Harrison St., Concord, CA 94518.Anyone wishing may light a ?Candle of Remembrance? at www.olthof.com
