Lunner, Leslie M. Wonderful son, husband, father, brother and uncle Age 52 of Prescott Ave. Elmira Heights, NY passed away Sunday, December 9, 2001 peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 6, 1949 in Washington, DC the son of Chester F. and Marian (Gilday) Lunner. He was preceded in death by his father Chester. Leslie married Marlene Hammond on September 6, 1969 in Elmira and has enjoyed 32 years of life and love together. He is also survived by: daughter and son-in-law, Virginia and Brian Hatfield of Elmira Heights, NY; mother, Marian Lunner also of Elmira Heights, NY; brother and sister-in-law, Chet and Sandy Lunner of Alexandria, VA; sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Alan Erickson of Elmira Heights, NY; mother-in-law, Virginia Hammond also of Elmira Heights, NY; nieces, Kristina Lunner of Washington, DC; Kimberly Lunner of Portland, ME; nephews, Joshua, Jonas and Brian Erickson of Elmira Heights, NY.Leslie retired from the USAF with the rank of Master Sergeant after 20 years of faithfully serving his country from 1968-1988. During his tour of duty he was stationed in various Air Force Bases throughout the world. They included: Minnesota, Okinawa, North Dakota, Virginia, Florida, Texas, Alaska and New York. Leslie was a distinguished and highly decorated Veteran. Of the medals he earned and honors he received he was most proud of the Air Force Commendation Medal with 4 devices, National Defense Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal and was also a graduate of the Noncommissioned Officer Academy. Leslie greatly loved his family and expressed this often through teasing. His greatest joy came from teasing his sister. He was a life-long New York Yankee fan and as he surfed the Internet developed a great love for the computer. Family and friends are invited to call at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Ave. Elmira, NY on Wednesday, December 12, 2001 from 7 to 9 PM. Funeral Services will be held there on Thursday at 10:00 AM. Southern Tier Hospice Chaplain Eleanor Haber will officiate. Interment will follow in the Woodlawn National Cemetery where the Military Forces Honor Guard will accord Mr. Lunner full Military Honors. Memorial Donations in the name of Leslie M.
