Larry R. Marsh

January 7, 1945 — June 5, 2021

Larry Richard Marsh, 76 of Elmira, New York, died peacefully surrounded by family on June 5, 2021 in Elmira. Larry was educated at Thomas Edison High School and then served honorably as a shipfitter in the US Navy for many years at sea aboard four ships, including the USS Borie, USS Lind, USS Lester, and the USS Constellation. Upon leaving the service Larry was employed by US Steel’s American Bridge Division (“The Bridgeworks”) in Elmira as a welder and quality control inspector. When after 17 years the plant closed, Larry attended New York State’s Harriman Training Academy and started a new career as a corrections officer, serving first for several years in Orange County, and then until retirement at the Elmira Correctional Facility. Larry was an avid hunter, camper, and history buff. He enjoyed home remodeling and customizing cars. He was perhaps best known in the family for his avocation as a woodworker, where over the years he created many fine pieces which have been and will be cherished for posterity. And it cannot be left out his affection for his Dachshunds, Barney and Baxter, who were always close by. Larry is survived by his wife of 53 years Judith, his son Victor, daughter Melissa (Charles DePaolo), his brother Randy (Debra), sister Janet (John Stooks) and three grandchildren, Alexandra, Brandon, and Allison, plus several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents Victor and Lucille, and his sister, Nancy. Burial services will be private for immediate family at Elmira’s Woodlawn National Cemetery.
