Kathleen J. Houper

Kathleen J. Houper passed away on October 7, 2023.  She is survived by her wonderful sons and daughters-in-law: Doug and Ann, Phil and Dennise; her precious grandchildren: Alexa, Reilly, Calum, and Logan; siblings: Margy (Joe) Dritto, Eileen (Bob) Tellefssen, Dossie Rielly, and Jim (Beth) Rielly all who she loved so much; step-mother: Rose Houper; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Kathie is predeceased by her husband: Charlie; mother and father: Margaret and William Rielly; brother Bill Rielly; aunt: Dorothy Stilwell and special friend: Edward Schieferstein.

Kathie was born and raised in Greenlawn, Long Island, NY. She graduated from Harborfields High School. She moved upstate to live with her aunt and uncle. She started working at the A&P plant for the chief chemist. She met her husband Charlie in 1967, they married later that year.

She also held positions for Royal Globe Insurance, United Way, Neighborhood Justice Project, Chemung Co. ARC, and Riverview Holiday Inn.

Kathie served on various committees and boards throughout the community that included her children's schools, the Town of Southport, the Senior Center, and Catholic Charities to name a few.
Raising her sons, who made her very proud, and spoiling her grandchildren, who made her very happy, were the most wonderful parts of her life. She felt blessed
to have so many good friends who were the best of the best.  She loved the years spent on Keuka Lake and many Sheriff trips throughout the United States that she shared with her husband.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations made to the Food Bank, CareFirst, or a charity of your choice.

Olthof Funeral Home has been entrusted with her arrangements. Per her request, there will be no calling hours. Her Final resting place will be in Woodlawn National Cemetery alongside her late husband, Charlie. There will be a celebration of life for family and friends on October 21, 2023 from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Bernie Murray's in Elmira, New York.
