Lown, Julie Patricia (Bensuk)Age 72, of 1162 Oakdale Avenue in Elmira, on Wednesday, January 15th, 2003.Julie was married for 47 years to Ronald Wayne Lown who died in 1997. Julie and Ron met while he was stationed at Ft. Devens, MA during his service in the Army. They met at a USO dance (rumor has it that he bought her entire dance card!).Julie is survived by her daughters, Kathy Ann Carter of Baldwinsville, NY; Susan L. Ruelas of San Jose, CA; and Lorri Lee Lown of San Mateo, CA; and five grandchildren: Ashley Ryan Rosati, Cassy Stahlberg, Britta Lynn Rosati, Adrianna Nicole Rosati, and Christopher Rosati. She is also survived by brother-in-law and wife, Rich and Judy Lown of Elmira; sons-in-law, Michael Rosati of Camillus, NY and Leo Ruelas of Los Gatos, CA; and nephews Randy, Todd, and Daniel Lown of Elmira.Julie was the daughter of Conrad and Julia (Robakowski) Bensuk, who emigrated from Poland. Her siblings include Lucy Field (deceased); Johnny Bensuk (deceased during WWII); Alfred Bensuk (deceased during WWII); Aleck Bensuk and his wife Jenny of Fitchburg, MA; and Helen Coleman and her husband Jack of Beachwood, NJ. She was born in Jewett City, CT and raised in Fitchburg, MA, where she graduated with honors from Fitchburg High School. She moved to Elmira after marrying Ron in 1950.She worked for Simon Saw & Steel in South Fitchburg, in the payroll department; and Liberty Mutual Insurance, prior to her marriage to Ron. Julie?s greatest priority in life was her family. She volunteered for many years with the Girls Scouts, the Parent Teacher?s Association, and the Wranglers Drum and Baton Corps. She was an active member of St. Mary?s Roman Catholic Church for many years, where she taught religious instruction.Family and friends are invited to call at Olthof Funeral Home, Inc., 1050 Pennsylvania Avenue, Elmira, on Sunday, January 19th from 1:00-3:00pm, with a memorial service immediately following. The memorial service with be officiated by long-time family friend, Robert Briggs. In lieu of flowers, Julie requested donations be made to the American Red Cross, Chemung-Schuyler Chapter, 462 W. Church St., Elmira, NY 14901, The Salvation Army, P.O. Box 293, Elmira, NY 14902, Ronald McDonald House, 333 Westmoreland Dr., Rochester, NY 14620, or Ronald McDonald House, 1027 E.
