Molnar, Joseph A. ( " Coach " , " Grampa Coach " )Age 90.Passed away peacefully, at Elderwood Nursing Home, Waverly, NY and was reunited with his beloved "Mumma" and "Puppa" on Mother's Day, May 11, 2014. Joseph was born on February 24, 1924 in Buffalo, NY and grew up with his parents, Joseph Molnar and Helena ( Bors ) Molnar, both immigrants from Hungry. He was the eldest of four brothers:Leslie, Paul, Zolton and James.He reveled in telling stories of his childhood with brothers, and extended family. Joseph proudly served his country, and was a veteran of both WW II, and the Korean War. He was a long time, active member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, a former member of The Eagles and Volunteer Docent at the Wing of Eagles War Plane Museum in Big Flats, NY, and an inductee into the Harvard Cup Hall of Fame in Buffalo, NY. Joe established himself, and his wife, RoseMary ( Scarpace ) in Elmira during the late 1950s. He started his decades long teaching and coaching career at Elmira Southside High School. He was Class Advisor for Southside Class of 1959. His greatest passion was the students in his class, and in the sports he coached. He touched many lives during his career. Joseph is predeceased by his wife, RoseMary ( Scarpace ) Molnar of Buffalo, his brothers, Leslie Molnar and Zolton Molnar, both of Buffalo, NY.He is survived by his only child, JoAnn Molnar-Kieffer ( SHS Class of 1977, residing Van Etten, NY, employed as an administrator at Cornell University),son-in-law, William D. Kieffer, who was his caretaker and friend, during the years he lived" On the Farm " in Van Etten.Grandchildren, who he adored and made many memories with, Timothy(TJ ) Besley of Millersville, MD and Heather Jo Besley, of Ithaca, NY. Family, Friends, and past students of Joe's are encouraged to call on Thursday, May 15th from 3 To 5 PM at OlthofFuneral Home in Elmira, NY1050 Pennsylvania Ave. Elmira/Southport, NY where we will celebrate his life. Rev. Krista Mendoza will officiate. The Chemung County Veterans Honor Squad will accord military honors at 5 PM prior to the service for Joseph. Calling hours will also be held at Dangler, Roberts, Perna Funeral Home 3000 Delaware Ave. Kenmore, NY from 12:30 to 2:00. A brief service and internment will follow at Elmlawn Cemetary, Kenmore, NY where he will be laid to rest with his wife. In lieu of flowers, donations in Joe's name may be made to the US Olympic Committee through TeamUSA.org, or mailed to United States Olympic Committee, One Olympic Plaza, Colorado, Springs, CO80901.
