John R. Mclaughlin

McLaughlin, John R. age 73 of Elmira, NY. The beloved husband of Mildred (Millie). John was born McKeesport, PA the son of the late Harry and Margaret Mary Flynn McLaughlin May 4th, 1928.He married his love and life companion of 45 years Mildred Gerow Stevens the 16th of March 1957 at a small family ceremony. Together they build a wonderful life filled love, many loving canine companions which they cherished as children. John was a devoted Army Veteran. Serving for 22 years he was placed in many prestigious positions. Here in the United States and over six years in Germany. John was involved in many Military Funerals during his career in the Armed Forces. He was overseer of General Mc Arthur?s funeral service and he served as Operations Sergeant for President John F. Kennedy?s funeral ceremonies. After John retired for the Army he continued his service to the people, in the United States Postal Service. Serving as clerk for more than 18 years John loved his work. Also surviving John is his nephews Douglas and Raymond Jensen of McKeesport, Pa. Brothers and Sisters in Law: Lawrence and Betty Gerow of Elmira, Frances Gerow of Pine Valley, and Ellen Gerow of Elmira. Canine companion ?MOLLY? and numerous nieces, nephew and loving friends. Family and friends may call at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Avenue, Elmira, NY Thursday, August 2nd, 2001 12:00PM to 1:00PM. Funeral services will be at the conclusion of the calling hours at 1:00PM. Deacon Robert Stowell will officiate. Graveside services will follow at the Woodlawn National Cemetery, Elmira, NY with full Military Honors accorded at the grave by the Chemung County Honor Squad. John was a member of the National Assoc. of Retired Federal Employees, the American Legion Post #154 ofElmira Heights, NY and the Elmira Elks Club B.P.O.E.. People who knew John best for his devotion to the New York Yankees, his love for his dogs, and most of all his love and dedication to his inspiration, friend, life companion, and love, Millie.
