ELMIRA – John "Dan or Danny" DeHaas, 71, of Elmira, passed away on May 21, 2023, at Arnot Ogden Medical Center. Born on May 20, 1952 in Elmira, he was the son of the late Richard and Mary (Barone) DeHaas. Dan was a graduate of Southside High School Class of 1971. He went on to earn two Associates Degrees from Corning College. On April 21, 1973, he married the love of his life, Mary Redder and they shared 50 wonderful years together. In 1973, Dan went to work for Agway. He later went to work for AETNA in Elmira as an accounting clerk. John loved doing crossword puzzles and going for walks with his dog, Nellie. He was a good guy that was there for anyone who needed him. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Mary Frances Dehaas. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Mary L. (Redder) DeHaas of Elmira; his daughters, Cheri (Brad) Jackson of Glendale, AZ, Sarah (Glen) Correll of Kannapolis, NC; his grandchildren, Nathan (Justine) Myers of Elmira, Lindsay (Justin) Slingerland of Elmira, Gaige Woodard of Elmira, Korbn Foster of Kannapolis, NC, Marigold Jeffers of Kannapolis, NC; 10 great-grandchildren; his siblings, Richard (Connie) DeHaas of Elmira, James (Donna) DeHaas of Chucky, TN, Lori (Tim) Elsbree of PA, Scott (Rachel) DeHaas of Pine City; his mother-in-law, Margaret Redder of AZ; his brother-in-law, Donald (Vanessa) Redder of TN; his sister-in-law, Patricia (Tom) Knapp of AZ, Terri (Scott) Pollack of AZ; his step-brother, Gary (Robin) Benjamin of VA; his step-sister, Judy Kent of Elmira; his good friend, Lee (Susie) Benjamin of FL; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. Services will be announced at a later date. Contributions in Dan’s memory may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, 1344 University Ave #270, Rochester, NY 14607.
