Mapes, Janette ?Jane? P. Age 82 of Willys Street Elmira, NY 14904. Passed away Monday, September 24, 2001 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. She was born June 29, 1919 in Elmira, NY the daughter of the late William Thomas and Helen Pearl (Carpenter) Hornsby. Janette married Harold C. Mapes Sr. June 29, 1940 in Elmira. She is survived by her loving husband of 61years, Harold; daughters, Carolyn A. Mapes of Corning, NY; Janice L. (James) Stafford of Dansville, NY; son, Harold C. Mapes Jr. of Queensbury, NY; brother, William Thomas Hornsby of Horseheads, NY; brother-in-law, Gerald Mapes of Freeville, NY; sister-in-law, Shirley Mapes of Horseheads, NY; grandchildren, Michael Mallory of Fort Collins, CO; Joseph Mallory of Elmira, NY; Jillian and Megan Stafford of Dansville, NY; Kirsten, Melissa, Jonathon, Emily and Zachary Mapes of Queensbury, NY; along with several cousins, nieces and nephews. ?Jane?, as she was affectionately known, was employed by the Mark Twain Hotel for many years and was a former member of the Women of the Moose Elmira Lodge. She retired from the Chemung County Sheriff?s Department as Matron after several years of faithful and dedicated service. Family and friends are invited to call at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Ave. Elmira, NY on Saturday, September 29, 2001 from 10 to 12 (noon). A Memorial Service celebrating ?Jane?s? life will be held there at the conclusion of the visitation. (12:00 noon) Interment will follow in the Woodlawn Cemetery Elmira, NY.
