Janet F. Griffin

Age 97, formerly of Spruce Street, Elmira, passed away peacefully April 10th, 2005 in the Chemung County Nursing Facility.She was the daughter of the late Edwin H.T. and Mary A. Ricketts Foster, born February 12th, 1908 in Chicago, IL.Janet is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Carol Griffin Ballou of Belmont, VT; Nancy Griffin (Dale) Bryant of Elmira, NY; grandchildren, Griffin Charles Ballou, Gregg Russell (Sarah) Ballou, Matthew Charles Bryant, Carol Bryant (Michael) Cady, Jennifer Townsley Bryant; great grandchildren, Sarah Jean Bryant, Laura Nicole Bryant, Ursula Ballou; brother, Gerald Foster of Westfield, NJ; and several nieces and nephews.Family and friends are invited to a Memorial Service to celebrate the life of Janet F. Griffin at 2:00 PM on Sunday, April 24th, 2005 in the North Presbyterian Church, 921 College Avenue, Elmira. Reverend Gary Chorpenning will officiate.Janet was predeceased by her loving husband, Charles Townsley Griffin; brothers, Kenneth Foster and Ralph Foster; and sisters, Miriam MacDonald and Marjorie Foster.She was a first grade teacher in Rockville Centre, Long Island, NY. She was very active in the North Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday School and adult bible studies. She was a volunteer for twenty years at Cohen Elementary School, through R.S.V.P.Since 1918, she spent her summers at the family cottage in Silver Bay on Lake George.
